Central Hudson Gas & Electric Customers Can Now Sign Up to Save on Electricity Costs while Supporting Local Solar Power; Limited Spots Available
MARBLETOWN, NY – April 28, 2021
Residential and small business customers in the Central Hudson Gas & Electric Utility service territory can now enroll in a community solar program from Con Edison Solutions. By participating in community solar, residents and small business customers can experience the environmental benefits of solar energy, while also potentially saving up to 10 percent of their annual electricity costs. For a limited time, customers can also receive a $50 incentive credit applied to a future month’s bill.
With community solar, energy users tap into a centrally located solar facility that allows residents and small businesses within the Central Hudson Gas & Electric service territory to save on electricity while supporting green, sustainable solar energy. These programs provide many of the environmental benefits of onsite solar energy systems without requiring participants to invest in the installation of solar panels on their residence or commercial building. Community solar is a valuable solution for renters, building owners, and homeowners who want to take advantage of green energy options, but cannot alter their existing infrastructure.
After enrolling, subscribers will receive a monthly consolidated bill from Central Hudson Gas & Electric that shows the net savings between the community solar credit and the cost of the subscription from Con Edison Solutions for their share of the solar energy produced by the community solar installation.
Con Edison Solutions is the developer, owner, and operator of the 3.5 MW solar installation on a site in Marbletown, New York, transforming 17 acres of unused land into a solar facility that will support the community’s environmental goals while saving money for subscribers. Once operational, the community solar farm will displace over 4,000 metric tons of CO2 annually. This equates to taking almost 1,000 vehicles off the road every year.
“Many who live in the Mid-Hudson region are committed to environmental stewardship. Residents have embraced recycling efforts, electric vehicles, and solar power – but based on location, ownership, and other considerations, investing in solar power isn’t always an option,” said Cara Olmsted, Director of New Business Development at Con Edison Solutions. “This is where community solar can play a vital role for residents of the Marbletown region. This community solar program will provide participants with the satisfaction of positively contributing to the environment in their community while putting money back in their pockets through lower electricity bills.”
