ConEdison Solutions, a national energy services company based in Valhalla, New York, worked with the district to apply for the funding through the State of Arizona School Facilities Board in November. The firm will be responsible for developing and implementing the energy improvement initiative.
“Community residents want to see their school tax dollars going directly to teaching and learning experiences, rather than to cover energy costs that, although necessary, are ancillary to educational programs," said James J. Dixon, Vice President of ConEdison Solutions. “Reducing energy use is good for the environment, good for Queen Creek’s budget, and helps create a superior learning experience for the District’s students by upgrading the infrastructure. We look forward to collaborating with the Queen Creek schools, and other school districts interested in saving energy, to implement a first-class energy efficiency program."
Queen Creek’s ARRA Energy Efficiency Grant will help pay for lighting upgrades, upgrades to HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) systems, improved HVAC controls and demand control ventilation. The energy program also includes retro-commissioning, a systematic process that identifies low-cost operational and maintenance improvements to help optimize a buildings energy using equipment based on the facility’s actual usage patterns.
The federal ARRA funds target improvements that result in electricity or gas savings. The grant will cover 30 percent of the overall project cost, the highest proportion permitted under the School Facilities Board guidelines.
The School Facilities Board is an executive agency under the auspices of Arizona Governor Jan Brewer which has allocated a total of $13 million in energy efficiency grant funds to be awarded to multiple school districts around the state.
