HARRISBURG, PA – DEC. 15, 2009: ConEdison Solutions, one of America’s largest energy services companies, is offering up to 13 percent in savings on electricity bills for residential and small business customers in the PPL Electric Utilities (PPL) service area.
The savings, compared to PPL’s generation rates taking effect in January, would reduce electricity spending by approximately $120 over the course of the coming year for a household using 700 kilowatt hours per month.
Secretary of Environmental Protection John Hanger and State Representatives Joseph Preston and Robert Godshall, joined ConEdison Solutions CEO Jorge J. Lopez at a Harrisburg news conference today where the offering was announced. Preston, a Democrat, and Godshall, a Republican, co-chair the Pennsylvania House Consumer Affairs Committee which oversees energy and utility issues.
“ConEdison Solutions, a financially stable energy services company with an excellent national reputation, is proud to help provide much-needed savings to energy users in the PPL territory,” said Mr. Lopez.
“In today’s economy, every dollar counts,” he said. “By providing options to reduce electricity costs, ConEdison Solutions will help local families and small businesses make ends meet.”
The ConEdison Solutions residential price will be 9.38 cents per kilowatt-hour (kwh) for a 12-month term commencing January 2010. By contrast, once state-mandated price caps expire next month, PPL’s residential supply rate for 2010 will be 10.818 cents per kwh. ConEdison Solutions’ price not only offers savings compared to the PPL Price to Compare, but is currently the best value among all offers on the price comparison chart on the Pennsylvania Office of Consumer Advocate’s (OCA) website.
“New competition will lower energy costs for Pennsylvania’s consumers and encourage energy efficiency and conservation that will protect the commonwealth’s natural resources,” said Department of Environmental Protection Secretary John Hanger. “Today’s announcement provides one more opportunity for Pennsylvania's homeowners and businesses to choose and control who supplies their electricity and at what cost.”
ConEdison Solutions also announced its support of Ronald McDonald House®, which provides families of sick children with a "home away from home” while their children are receiving treatment at a nearby children’s hospital. The company will donate $5 to the customer’s local Ronald McDonald House® for every PPL customer enrolling with ConEdison Solutions before January 31, 2010.
“As policymakers, our goal in creating a competitive energy marketplace has been to help Pennsylvanians save money and promote environmental quality," said State Representative Joseph Preston. “With the entry of a respected energy supplier like ConEdison Solutions to the residential market,we know that we are succeeding in bringing a rich array of first-class options to customers."
"When companies compete for a customer’s business, the customer wins by gaining access to the economic benefits arising from the competitive market,” said Pennsylvania State Representative Robert W. Godshall. "From the outset, we wanted to create a dynamic competitive environment. The arrival of ConEdison Solutions, a highly respected energy provider, helps us achieve that critical objective."
PPL and the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission estimate that for customers who do not make the switch to an alternative energy supplier prices would increase by 30 percent for residents and 19 percent for small businesses in January.
ConEdison Solutions has been active in the PPL service territory since early October, when it began offering competitive energy supply to large business and industrial customers in the area. It has been serving Pennsylvania’s Pike County Light and Power customers since 2006.
There are no sign-up or switching fees for customers who enroll with ConEdison Solutions.
Under Pennsylvania's restructured energy market, ConEdison Solutions will supply the lower-priced electricity and PPL will continue to deliver the electricity, read meters, and send customers a single bill that incorporates all electricity charges, just as before.
ConEdison Solutions presently serves more than 200,000 residential and small commercial accounts in New York, Connecticut, Pennsylvania and Massachusetts by providing value through lower prices, price protection, and environmentally friendly “green” power.
