ConEdison Solutions (CES), one of America’s leading energy services companies, hosted an event to announce solar installations at four local schools in Plymouth, CT, approximately 22 miles west of Hartford.

The solar initiative is part of the Plymouth Public Schools’ effort to promote renewable energy and energy efficiency in its facilities.  The four schools include: Harry S. Fisher Elementary School, Plymouth Center Elementary School, Eli Terry Middle School, and Terryville High School.

The solar installations are expected to collectively generate 1.6 million kWh of electricity annually, and will offset approximately 26,900 metric tons of CO2 emissions over their lifetime. The school district will achieve significant financial benefits with no installation costs.

The three rooftop systems and one ground-mounted solar facility will be owned, operated and maintained by CES, which has contracted with Safari Energy, who constructed the project, to perform maintenance services.

The Plymouth Public Schools are proud to join the ranks of school districts in Connecticut that have made a strong commitment to solar power, said Dr. Martin J. Semmel, Superintendent, Plymouth Public Schools. “The students of Plymouth will learn a wonderful life-long lesson of creating renewable energy in our communities.”

“The Town of Plymouth is proud to advance this clean energy project,” said David V. Merchant, Mayor of Town of Plymouth. “Hosting solar at our schools not only promotes sustainability but also allows the district to redirect a portion of the savings to our educational mission.”

“We applaud the Town of Plymouth for its commitment to clean energy,” said Michael Perna, Vice President of Business Development of ConEdison Solutions.  “All across the country, we are seeing more and more communities like Plymouth capitalize on the benefits of renewable energy.”

“We are honored to partner with the Town of Plymouth, Plymouth Public Schools and ConEdison Solutions on this exciting initiative,” said Matthew Rudey, CEO of Safari Energy. “These solar installations will provide Plymouth schools with certainty on energy costs and reduce the state’s carbon footprint.

The solar installations are owned by ConEdison Solutions.  The projects are qualified under Eversource’s ZREC Program.  The four schools will receive the entire electrical output of the installations under a 20-year power purchase agreement with ConEdison Solutions.
