University of Texas-Pan American hosted energy efficiency workshop featuring Theresa Sifuentes of ConEdison Solutions

August 09, 2011

Austin, TX –August 8, 2011:   In the current economic environment, public entities need to find ways to get energy-efficient building infrastructure improvements funded without any up-front cost.  That was the key message by ConEdison Solutions Business Development Manager, Theresa Sifuentes, at the Office for Sustainability at the University of Texas Pan American “Energy Efficiency Building Infrastructure Improvements” workshop earlier this year.

During her session, Ms. Sifuentes discussed the statute that allows institutions to utilize third party financing, including financing through the State Energy Conservation Office (SECO) LoanSTAR Program, and described successful project implementation processes.  Specifically, some steps that organizations might take include preparing an energy assessment of the facility or facilities, utilizing information about measures that would improve efficiency and save money, securing team buy-in for undertaking an energy efficiency project, applying financing options to the plan for a clearer view of costs and benefits, and then identifying an energy services company, like ConEdison Solutions, that would offer the expertise and process management that would result in guaranteed savings.

“With sustainability and conservation high on the nation’s list of priorities, it is incumbent upon all of us to be mindful of our energy use and make sure that our facilities run as efficiently as possible,” said Ms. Sifuentes.  “We are pleased that this workshop was well received and look forward to any future opportunities to educate and raise awareness.”

Ms. Sifuentes was joined by Juan Ontiveros, Executive Director of Utilities and Energy Management at the University of Texas at Austin, who led a session on setting up and implementing an energy master plan.  There was also a session describing the latest LED lighting technologies.

The workshop was attended by more than 40 private sector, educational institution, and city and county government professionals from throughout the Rio Grande Valley.
