Elon Musk Moving Forward with 2017 Hyperloop Demo

An October announcement from Elon Musk’s Hyperloop One suggests that plans for the innovative Los Angeles startup are poised to pick up speed early in 2017.  The company announced $50 million in new financing in advance of a full-scale demonstration of the 700 mile-per-hour tube system that may change the transportation industry as soon as next year.

In addition, the company also revealed its hiring of Brent Callinicos, the former CFO of Uber.  Callinicos has also held high-level financial positions with Microsoft and Google.  His presence lends added credibility to the project and will likely give confidence to other potential investors.

Elon Musk forecasts that the hyperloop would enable passengers to travel from San Francisco to Los Angeles in only thirty minutes.  What’s more, Musk also claims that the project will cost ten times less than California’s high-speed rail line that is currently under construction.
