Renewable Energy Investments Reach an All-Time High

Renewable EnergyIt’s no secret that the energy industry is putting great emphasis recently on new ways to produce renewable energy, not only for environmental reasons, but for financial reasons as well.

In 2015, the amount of money investors committed to renewable energy rose 5 percent, to $285.9 billion, which exceeds the previous record of $278.5 billion in 2011.  What’s more, 2015 also represented the fifth consecutive year in which investments made toward renewables outpaced that of fossil fuels.

Another impact that renewable energy is having on the energy market is a shorter time to project completion for energy generation facilities, which of course means a shorter time for energy to begin being generated.  Wind farms can begin producing energy in as short as nine months while solar parks can begin producing energy in just six.  This presents a huge advantage to grid operators that have seen many traditional energy projects—nuclear or coal, for instance—take a comparatively long time (sometimes many years!) to come to fruition which can strain existing resources and tie up investment dollars.
