DOE Opens Solar Research Lab

solar-researchThanks to some generous sources, to the tune of $59 million, the Department of Energy (DOE) has opened its Solar Energy Research Center at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in California.

The research center, known as SERC, will study photovoltaic (PV) and electro-chemical solar energy systems.  It will be housed in the Joint Center for Artificial Photosynthesis, which is home to the nation’s largest research program dedicated to finding cost-effective methods of producing fuels using only sunlight, water, and carbon dioxide.

The location was chosen because of its proximity to Berkeley Lab, the University of California at Berkeley and the California Institute of Technology, which puts together researchers from various disciplines who are all working on the same issues.Full story.
