Army Bases in Georgia Going Solar

georgia-solarThe Army has broken ground on solar projects at Fort Benning near Columbus, Fort Gordon near Augusta, and Fort Steward near Savannah.

As part of Georgia Power’s 3X30 Solar Project, the installations will feature three 30-megawatt generation systems each covering at least 200 acres.  They are scheduled to come online by the end of next year.

Once fully operational, the power company’s 3X30 plan is expected to add 500 solar projects and 900 MW.  It will also bring the Army closer to its goal of deploying 1 gigawatt of renewable energy by 2025.
