World’s Largest Fuel Cell Installation Planned for CT


Connecticut is set to become home to the largest fuel cell installment if developers get the go ahead.

The Beacon Falls, Connecticut project would take up about eight acres and produce almost 64 MW of energy.  That could provide enough power to 60,000 homes. 

Fuel cells are considered renewable energy in Connecticut, so electricity produced in Beacon Falls would count toward the state’s renewable portfolio standard, which requires 27 percent of power produced from renewable sources.  FuelCell Energy would operate the installation and CT Energy & Technology would develop and own it.  The developers are also in talks with ISO-New England to connect the fuel cell installation to the grid.
