Vets transitioning from soldier to solar

The White House announced an initiative to transition veterans into the workforce by training them to work in the solar panel industry.

The job-training program, dubbed the Solar Instructor Training Network, will be rolled out over six years and is among a group of presidential initiatives with the target of cutting carbon dioxide emissions by more than 300 million tons by 2030.  The network is administered by SunShot Initiative, with the goal of training at least 50,000 new installers, including veterans at three U.S. military bases, by 2020.

Career paths will include installation, sales and system inspection.  Recruits may have immediate job opportunities.  Three of the country’s largest solar companies have committed to interview graduating military trainees.
