Are you ready for some green football?

Football HelmetThe San Francisco 49ers believe its fans are, and, to that end, have a brand-new LEED Gold certified stadium.  Levi’s Stadium is the first American sports venue of its size to achieve LEED Gold certification, with seating for nearly 69,000 fans.

Among the green features of the $1.2 billion Santa Clara, California stadium are a 400kW photovoltaic installation and use of recycled or reclaimed building materials throughout.  The stadium also features a 27,000-square-foot green roof, uses 50 percent less water for its grass field, and overall recycles 85 percent of the water consumed.

Even the food is sustainable.  Menus feature local sourced choices and vegetarian and vegan options.

Fans around the country will be able to see the green measures for themselves. Levi’s Stadium plays host to Super Bowl 50 in 2016.
