Finalists for offshore wind project span the country

Companies in New Jersey, Oregon and Virginia are the winners of Department of Energy grants to develop offshore wind farms.  The three finalists, each of which received $4 million in federal matching funds in 2012 for preliminary project analysis, were chosen from a group of seven projects.

They are Fishermen’s Energy in New Jersey, Principle Power in Oregon and Dominion Virginia Power in Virginia.  

Each company has a year to deliver a final design and achieve permitting and an offtake agreement, with energy production expected to begin by 2017.   Full story.
