Walmart is going big into solar. Already the largest on-site solar user in the U.S., according to the Solar Energy Industries Association, the retailer plans on doubling its renewable energy capacity to generate 7 billion kWh at its locations across the world by 2020, a 600% increase over 2010 levels.
To date, the 240 solar projects undertaken by the company have saved it an estimated 4.8 million kWh in billable electricity use. Coupled with a pledge to reduce energy intensity by 20% since 2010, Walmart could see savings of $1 billion per year. Full story.
