Deregulation
Before deregulation, electricity customers did not have the option to choose their electricity supplier. Electricity was both delivered and supplied by the local utility. Today, customers can choose to purchase their electricity from alternate energy suppliers like ConEdison Solutions. Your utility will still handle the delivery of electricity to your home or business over the same power lines that you use today, but the electricity you use will be supplied by ConEdison Solutions. Also, you will still receive one convenient bill from your utility, just as you do now.
Choosing a supplier
ConEdison Solutions offers customers an array of pricing options, including a fixed electric supply price or a variable electricity supply price, along with products such as GREEN or WIND power (in areas where available).

Currently, we are serving residential and small business customers in New York, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Maryland and Massachusetts. Under ConEdison Solutions' electricity programs, residential and small business customers can choose between fixed price plans, variable price plans, or select cleaner sources of renewable energy. Securing a fixed price plan allows customers to protect themselves against electricity price spikes that typically occur during hot summer months. A variable price plan may offer customers some savings when compared with local utility prices, since prices change month-to-month based on market conditions. In areas where available, customers who seek cleaner, non-polluting electricity can choose our products of GREEN Power and WIND Power. GREEN Power utilizes all-natural wind and hydropower energy sources to generate power, while WIND Power utilizes 100% wind. These renewable energy sources help preserve the environment by reducing the environmental impact of the energy you use.
New York Customers
Electricity customers in New York can also save on sales tax by switching to ConEdison Solutions. As of September 2003, New York State eliminated sales tax on the electricity delivery portion of the bill for customers purchasing electricity from alternate electricity suppliers, such as ConEdison Solutions. Some New York utilities are even offering discounts (up to 4 cents per 10 kilowatt hours) to serve as an added benefit for customers who switch to alternate electricity suppliers. Most importantly, the utility offers a small credit/discount (retail access credit) on your bill for every kwh that you use when you switch to an alternate electricity supplier. The discount (about 0.2 cents in CECONY, 0.4 cents in RGE, NYSEG, NiMo) is itemized on your monthly bill when you switch. The retail access credit is given to customers because the utility no longer provides services (e.g. labor, procurement of energy, billing, etc) for the electricity supply portion of your bill. They calculate the cost of that service, and then pass the credit onto you, the customer.
