CON EDISON SOLUTIONS AND COMMUNITY ENERGY DONATE GREEN POWER TO WIRED NEXTFEST 2006
WIND ENERGY WILL POWER JAVITS CENTER FOR 'GREEN REVOLUTION' EVENT
New York, NY - September 28, 2006 - ConEdison Solutions, a leading energy services company, and Community Energy, a marketer and developer of wind energy generation, have teamed up to donate 404,000 kilowatt-hours of renewable wind energy attributes to WIRED Magazine’s NextFest.
The festival, to be held at the Jacob Javits Center in Manhattan during the week from September 25 through October 1, showcases a global array of innovative "Green Revolution" products and technologies. The 404,000 kilowatt-hours consisting of 100 percent wind power attributes is enough to offset the usage of the entire Javits Center throughout the week-long event.
Patterned on Worlds Fairs of the past, WIRED NextFest festival attendees "experience the future of exploration, entertainment, transportation, health, communication, design, security, and green living."
“ConEdison Solutions is proud to help make this green event even greener and raise awareness that renewable power is an available and viable alternative to traditional energy sources,” said Jorge J. Lopez, president of ConEdison Solutions. “NextFest will demonstrate to participants and attendees that switching to green power makes a difference. It is an emission-free, alternative form of energy that is affordable for both commercial and residential customers.”
“The WIRED NextFest draws hundreds of forward-thinking attendees and many leading scientists and researchers from around the world,” said Brent Alderfer, executive vice president of Community Energy. “We are proud to power the festival with wind energy. Clean, endless energy is here now with wind generation.”
"Green Power" is clean, renewable energy that is now available to all residential, commercial, industrial and government energy users in New York State through ConEdison Solutions. "Green Power" purchased by commercial, industrial and government energy users consists of emissions-free NewWind Energy®, a product of Community Energy, Inc.
The fractionally higher cost of pollution-free electricity is far outweighed by benefits to the environment, expanded energy security and an improved quality of life. For New York residential customers, "Green Power" costs approximately one cent more per kilowatt-hour than the ConEdison Solutions standard offer and is a blend of 35% NewWind Energy and 65% hydropower. For a typical residential customer using 350 kilowatt-hours of electricity per month, the additional cost roughly equals $3.50 more per month than standard electricity rates. Business or residential customers can sign up by calling 1-888-320-8991, or on-line at www.conedisonsolutions.com.
WIRED NextFest.2006 will debut The Green Pavilion, a collaborative enterprise bringing together leading architects, engineers, designers, materials developers, technologists and inventors, energy providers and systems integrators to create a zero-emissions temporary structure and demonstrate how the world’s leading visionary people, companies and ideas are fueling the Green Revolution. Organizers describe the Green Revolution as "a collaborative effort of governments, scientists, business, urban planners, inventors and investors as well as consumers of the world."
The Green Pavilion will "showcase the technologies, environments and experiences that will illuminate the present reality and future visions of green technologies and alternative energy sources including: next generation green materials, fuel cell powered cars, appliances and electronics, renewable energy systems, green architecture and construction models and methods, water purification systems, bio-sensors and environment monitoring systems."
