HOST COMMITTEE WILL RELY ON RENEWABLE 'GREEN POWER'

--ConEdison Solutions Will Supply Clean Energy from NYS Wind Farms --

White Plains, NY, August 4, 2004 - NYC Host Committee Chief Operating Officer Maureen J. Reidy announced that the Host Committee will rely on clean and renewable energy, supplied by ConEdison Solutions , to offset the traditional sources of electricity that would otherwise be employed in Madison Square Garden from August 30th until September 2nd, when the 2004 Republican National Convention will take place.  ConEdison Solutions will purchase 'Green Power' generated at the Fenner wind farm, in upstate New York's Madison County.  This clean electricity will be delivered into the New York State power grid for distribution on behalf of the NYC 2004 Host Committee for the four days of the Republican National Convention.  The New York Public Service Commission tracks the provision of this energy.  Wind is captured by turbines and converted into electricity.  It is the fastest-growing energy supply source in the world today.

Energy usage for the four days, or the 96 hours, of 2004 Republican National Convention is estimated by ConEdison Solutions  to total 474 megawatt hours (MWH), enough energy to cover the annual electricity usage of approximately 110 typical New York City residences.  Electrical usage in Madison Square Garden during the Republican Convention will cover: general lighting, theatrical lighting, media network anchor booths, all air conditioning, computers, telephones and sound.

 "The NYC 2004 Host Committee is proud to join  ConEdison Solutions in this partnership that is sure to help protect the air New Yorkers breathe, the water New Yorkers drink and the land we share," said NYC 2004 Chief Operating Officer Maureen J. Reidy.

 A few of the benefits from using wind power or Green Power are:
  • Keep pollutants and gases that induce greenhouse effects out of the atmosphere;
    Conserve fossil fuels;
  • Make clean energy production a growing contributor to New York's economy and;
  • Increase the diversity of our energy supply.
"The use of 'Green Power' helps to protect the environment and encourage responsible use of energy," said JoAnn F. Ryan, president and CEO of  ConEdison Solutions..  "The NYC 2004 Host Committee has decided that the 2004 Republican National Convention will join the many New York corporations and residents who turn to pollution-free, renewable energy sources to power their homes and businesses."

The Fenner wind farm has a total of 20 wind turbines, each with a capacity of 1.5
megawatts for a total maximum combined output of 30 megawatts.  The Fenner wind farm can produce approximately 89,000 megawatt hours each year - enough clean electricity to serve about 10,000 average American homes.  The turbines are each 328 feet high, taller than a 32 story building, and have a rotor diameter of 231 feet, longer than the wingspan of a Boeing 747 jet.  The wind turbines make one revolution every 3 to 5.5 seconds.  They begin producing power with wind speeds as low as eight miles per hour, and reach maximum output at 55 mile per hour wind speeds. For additional information, please check the Fenner website at www.fennerwind.com.

Some of the Host Committee's electrical needs have included the installation of 40,000 miles of cabling between the convention's two main venues - Madison Square Garden and the Farley Post Office Building on Eighth Avenue. Cables between the two buildings will be carried over a temporary pedestrian bridge that has been built for the convention.
