The City of New York is investing in renewable energy as a key strategy to advance the City’s goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions 80% by the year 2050. The City is installing solar photovoltaic (PV) panels on the rooftops of its facilities as part of a commitment to install 100 MW of solar PV capacity by 2025.  As part of this program, a Staten Island Ferry maintenance facility, operated by the NYC Department of Transportation, was identified as an ideal candidate to host a solar installation. ConEdison Solutions was selected to provide a solar array that now supplies electricity back to the facility under a Power Purchase Agreement - helping the City to move cost-effectively towards its sustainability goals.  The Staten Island Ferry, operating between lower Manhattan and Staten Island, is a New York City institution and its largest maintenance facility is now hosting a 228 kW PV array that generates clean, renewable energy.
