The wastewater treatment plant in the City of Kerman, California serves a community of more than 14,000 residents.  Because the plant uses a large amount of electricity in its operations, ConEdison Solutions was hired to develop, own and operate a solar installation to meet a large portion of the plant’s energy needs while protecting the City’s budget from future utility rate increases.  A $1.6 million ground-mounted system was designed for a City-owned parcel of land.  Through a 20-year power purchase agreement, the solar array was constructed at no upfront cost to the City.  The power from the solar panels is generating savings for the city of Kerman of more than $95,000 per year and the project has met the goal of providing 70 percent of the plant’s electricity needs.
